The Challenge

Cooking up a fresh outlook for fast casual. 

Shifts in mindset and behavior have impacted the fast casual experience and changed expectations for the category. Chipotle needed fresh cultural insights to inspire fresh thinking and reconnect with their customers – especially Gen Z and Millennial diners. Chipotle turned to us to identify new centers of food excitement, as well as opportunities for novel ad strategies and menu offerings.

To gain a holistic understanding of food narratives, we explored the entire ecosystem influencing food choices – from home life to celebrity culture, to emerging movements in gastronomy. Our work provided Chipotle with a future-facing view of consumers' feelings about food and dining out that inspired menu updates, experiences and advertising strategies that resonate with younger diners.
